The news of running back Thomas Jones’ departure from New York hit the wire earlier this week, but it didn’t become official until today with the Jets filing the necessary paperwork with the league to make Jones a free agent.

Jones is thought to be coveted by several teams, including San Diego, New England, and Kansas City. Jones could also end up re-signing with New York, albeit at a much lower price, but for now he’s expected to take full advantage of his status to find his value on the open market.
