Fri @ 5:25 pm – Boldin will get a new contract as well, according to Schefter… four years, $28 million
5:22 pm – The deal is all but done. Baltimore is sending their 3rd and 4th round picks in this year’s draft to Arizona and will receive Boldin plus the Cardinals’ fifth round selection. Ravens receiving corps now looks to be fairly solid with Boldin, Mason, Stallworth, and Clayton.
4:40 pm – Apparently, the Pats involvement was minimal at best. It’s now down to the Chiefs and the Ravens according to multiple sources.
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King is saying the Ravens are close to pulling it off and Baltimore Sun beat writer Jamison Hensley agrees, saying it will likely be for a third round pick in this year’s draft. No word on what the Chiefs are offering.
3:05 pm – Speculation has run rampant in recent years as to when the Cardinals would finally send Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin packing for a new team. Several potential deals came close last off-season, but this year seems to be the one, given all the discussion surrounding Boldin and Arizona’s unwillingness to offer him a major contract.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, those talks have intensified significantly today, with Baltimore, New England, and Kansas City emerging as the favorites to land Boldin in a trade very soon. Boldin could potentially be had for as little as a third round pick, and while the Ravens and the Patriots could afford to send that kind of ransom back in return, the Chiefs could also offer the Cardinals a player along with a pick if need be.
Kansas City has been testing the water on linebacker Derrick Johnson, who has underachieved big time since being drafted #15 overall in 2005, and would likely be open to the idea of sending him along with a lesser pick to Arizona in exchange for Boldin’s services.
As always, we’ll keep you posted as news breaks.
