Fri @ 11:45 am – Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting both Peppers and Taylor are taking physicals right now in Chicago, which is a definite precursor to a contract agreement. Look for an announcement to come out soon.
12:35 am – It’s all but official, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Peppers will be introduced tomorrow afternoon, barring any complications.
Thurs @ 11:35 pm – Peppers to the Bears is all but done, with multiple sources reporting it’s Chicago’s “deal to lose.”
11:32 pm – According to Chicago Tribune beat writer Vaughn McClure, Bears head coach Lovie Smith has flown into Charlotte to meet with Peppers and his agent tonight, before flying back with the pair to Chicago.
11:20 pm – With almost nothing to work with in this year’s draft, Chicago knew they were going to have to rebuild their franchise the hard way, doling out a boatload of cash to free agent talent this off-season.
According to multiple sources, that’s exactly what’s happening, as the Bears have already lined up visits with running back Chester Taylor (Vikings) and defensive end Julius Peppers (Panthers). Taylor is a bit of a surprise but Peppers is not, given the overwhelming amount of speculation surrounding him potentially coming to the Windy City.
Neither player is likely to sign right away, although Peppers could end up sticking it out if the money is right. Both are expected to have other suitors pushing hard for them to visit their club as well.
