The Bills coaching search rambled on down a completely unexpected path today, with former Rams head coach Mike Martz publicly lobbying for the job in Buffalo.

Citing a league source, ESPN’s Tim Graham reported that Martz is ready to get back into the head coaching ranks and would prefer to do so in Buffalo, where he has several significant connections with players and coaches already in place. Martz has worked with current interim head coach Perry Fewell before and drafted starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick out of Harvard during his tenure in St. Louis.

So far the Bills have remained mum on their opinion of Martz, but his name should receive more consideration as higher value targets for Buffalo fall by the wayside. Whether or not Martz can actually be an effective head coach in this league is another matter alltogether, and while he’s enjoyed success in the role before, his stops in Detroit and San Francisco as an offensive coordinator definitely left a lot to be desired.
