The long awaited meeting between former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and Bills COO Russ Brandon took place yesterday, and while there wasn’t exactly much substance coming out of the discussion, both sides seemed to be amicable to keeping the lines of communication open in the future.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Shanahan was impressed by Brandon’s presentation, and liked what he saw in the future of a Bills franchise that is currently in a state of disarray. That being said, Shanahan would prefer to wait until the season ends to begin his deliberations on a return to the NFL coaching ranks, as he would then have a complete picture as to which positions will be open.

We previously discussed this story last week, when reports of the meeting first became public.

It’s likely that if Shanahan does come back to be a head coach next season, he would want to do so with a team that would give him control over player personnel decisions as well as his coaching duties, which poses a small problem in Buffalo, where there is a reasonably solid core of front office staff that make the roster decisions for the team.

At any rate, all of those details would be have to be worked out before a contract could be reached and as such it’s probable that the Bills are comfortable with making an arrangement of that sort.
