3:30 pm – According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings are planning on giving Rosenfels all of the first team snaps, at least until Jackson is capable of returning to the field. That will certainly help Rosenfels in his quest to win the starting job, but if he falters, don’t be surprised to see more than a few names thrown out for Minnesota to bring into the fold.

1:20 pm – Pro Football Talk is reporting that the initial diagnosis in Minnesota is that Jackson has a “grade 1 MCL sprain” and will be labeled day-to-day by the team’s medical officials. That evaluation is subject to change at any time though, and if it is worse that initially feared, Jackson will likely miss significant practice and playing time this pre-season.

11:30 am – According to Kevin Seifort at ESPN.com, Minnesota QB Tavarris Jackson limped off the field earlier today during the Vikings practice session with an apparent injury to his leg. Jackson stumbled over defensive lineman LeTroy Guion, and subsequently collapsed to the field in pain. He eventually made his way off the field on his own.

The extent of the injury is not known at this time, but any extended absence for Jackson could bring about major problems for the Vikings, as the QB position is their weakest in terms of quality depth. Former Texans QB Sage Rosenfels and Jackson are expected to battle for the starting role with the team, after veteran QB Brett Favre decided to remain in retirement rather than play one more season.
