The Browns have decided to forgo naming a starting quarterback at this point, preferring instead to push both of their top QBs to best the other in an open competition this spring/summer, according to NFL.com.

New head coach Eric Mangini passed along the news this morning during a breakfast session with the media at the NFL owner’s meetings, clearly indicating that he is not satisfied with the play of either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson last season.

Both players struggled at times, although Anderson was the largest letdown, after he played poorly on the heels of receiving a major contract prior to the start of the season. Quinn showed flashes of brilliance before being injured, and should push Anderson for the starting role.
