Jets becoming Ravens North

When Rex Ryan was hired as the Jets new head coach in January, most expected him to bring over a few players from his former team in Baltimore. Ryan himself even hinted at the one’s he liked, although he stopped short of naming them specifically for fear of tampering charges.

Up to now, he’s made good on the move to bring in players he knows, adding LB Bart Scott among others to a team that is clearly ascending this off-season.

Today the Jets added another former Raven, free safety Jim Leonhard, who earned his playing time in Baltimore with a ton of hard work and perseverence, after most teams said he was too small to be effective in the NFL. Leonhard had his coming out party late last season, delivering several major plays to help the Ravens earn a trip to the AFC title game, before being defeated by their rivals in Pittsburgh.

Leonhard joins a crowded defensive backfield in New York, but given his relationship with the head man in charge, he should find his way onto the playing field fairly fast this fall.
