Benson sticks with the Bengals

After a terrible start to his career in Chicago, Cedric Benson became a major surprise last season in Cincinnati, rushing for 747 yards and two TDs.

So impressive was his 2008 campaign that many around the league felt he would garner significant interest as a free agent this off-season

But after interest in him remained minimal, Benson decided to take the best offer on the table, and stay with the Bengals for the next two seasons. The team announced the deal earlier this afternoon and will pay Benson $7 million over the length of the contract.

Benson is likely to be the team’s starter at RB for the time being, although he could share time if the Bengals draft a RB in April.
