Losing a talented veteran receiver to free agency is a tough blow for most teams. Signing one right afterwards is a major plus.
One day removed from WR T.J.Houshmandzadeh jumping ship in Cincinnati in favor of a major deal in Seattle, the Bengals have found his replacement, in the form of former New York Jets WR Laveranues Coles.
According to John Clayton (ESPN), Coles agreed to a four year, $28 million contract with Cincinnati, giving himself a $1 million raise and much more job security in the process. Prior to his release from the Jets, Coles had been offered a one year deal for $6 million guaranteed, but he declined the offer and entered free agency instead.
