Taylor ready to join the Pats?

It’s a done deal.

According to Adam Schefter (NFL.com), the Patriots have finalized a contract with Taylor earlier this morning. Terms were not announced.

When veteran RB Fred Taylor was jettisoned by the Jaguars last week, no one was really sure how the market would shape up for him given his age and injury concerns.

Those fears are beginning to be just a little unfounded, as Taylor has received two separate offers in the past two days from potential AFC East powers in New England and Buffalo.

According to the Providence Journal, the New England Patriots appear to be the frontrunners for his services at this juncture, although with the advent of free agency less than 15 minutes away, it’s definitely possible that another team could come into play before things are all said and done.

Taylor would be a solid fit for the Pats, a team that loves to bring in quality veterans on their last legs that are willing to sacrifice it all for another shot at the ever elusive Super Bowl championship. He would give them a solid option out of the backfield to run with or throw to as a checkdown target, and his blocking on blitz pickups would be crucial as well.

Buffalo was another option, but given their uncertainty at RB and inability to get into the playoffs in recent memory, Taylor will likely decide against playing for the Bills and forgo them for a better opportunity at at ring somewhere else.
