Lead zebra finally ditching his stripes

The Associated Press is reporting this morning that the NFL’s Head of Officiating, Mike Pereira, is hanging up his whistle and heading off into the sunset to return home to his native NorCal.
Despite having presided over one of the worst stretches of officiating in recent memory, Pereira is deserving of credit for having made the entire officiating process open to criticism and for allowing unprecedented access to the media following closely contested games.

Can we really say it was one of the worst?
Or, more likely, with the video we have now, and all the blogs, people are just taking greater notice and complaining about it a whole lot more?
I’d say that’s a fair assessment Mike. Having fifteen different replay angles really puts the officials on the hot seat if they make the wrong call, and us bloggers don’t help all that much.
My issue isn’t really with the challenge calls, it’s more with the subjective type of penalties that we’re seeing more of, like the roughing the kicker penalty last night against Baltimore when Mitch Berger took home the academy award for best actor. There has to be a better way to keep those kind of calls consistent because they truly impact the outcome of the game.
