Spags headed west to coach the Rams

January 17th, 2009

5:00 pm: The salary details for Spagnuolo’s deal in St. Louis were released earlier by Jim Thomas (St. Louis Post-Dispatch). Spags will make just under $3 million a season over four years with the Rams.

1:45 pm: According to Bernie Miklasz (St. Louis Post-Dispatch), the Rams will hire New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as the team’s new head coach.

Miklasz believes the two sides are currently in negotiations and while no press conference has been announced as of yet, he feels an announcement on Spagnuolo’s hiring is forthcoming this afternoon.

This would be a solid hire by the Rams, briging one of the NFL’s top defensive minds to St. Louis. The Rams have had exciting offenses in the past, but their struggles on defense have cost them opportunities to win as of late, and it seems that the Rams are intent on fixing that right away by hiring Spagnuolo away from New York.
