G-Men looking to Capers as new DC
January 17th, 2009
Chris Mortensen (ESPN) is reporting that the New York Giants have tapped Dom Capers (Patriots) to become the next defensive coordinator in the Big Apple, after losing Steve Spagnuolo to the Rams earlier today.
Capers has formerly been the head coach in Carolina and Houston, and despite his poor performance in both locations, he is widely considered one of the better defensive minds in the game.
The main difference will come in the scheme he implements, as Spagnuolo ran a 4-3 attack style of defense, while Capers prefers to use the 3-4. That will necessitate a slight change in personnel, but given the Giants abundance of quality pass rushers, they should handle the switch fairly well.
