Packers looking at Nolan, Williams at DC

January 10th, 2009

The Green Bay Press-Gazette is reporting that the Packers have narrowed their efforts to hire a new defensive coordinator down to two: former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, and former Buffalo Bills head coach Gregg Williams.

The team is also considering a few other candidates, but they are expected to focus primarily on hiring either Nolan or Williams at this point. Of the two, the Packers seem to prefer Nolan, while Williams is seen as the frontrunner to take the same position in New Orleans with the Saints.

Linehan heads west to San Fran

January 9th, 2009

Former St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan is in San Francisco to interview for the 49ers offensive coordinator vacancy, according to the Associated Press.

Linehan was fired in St. Louis after leading the Rams to a terrible 11-25 record over two seasons plus with the team. He was replaced on an interim basis by defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. The Rams are currently in the midst of interviewing a number of strong candidates for the position.
