83-foot wave measured by satellite as Hurricane Florence approaches

Florence is expected to make landfall late Thursday night or early Friday morning, Mountain Time, somewhere between Atlantic Beach, NC and Savannah, GA.

Helene is now 2,065km south-southwest of the Azores in the Atlantic and Met Éireann said the storm would approach the south coast by Tuesday. Strong winds may continue into Sunday. McNoldy says "the rainfall has been and continues to be a very substantial threat over the entire area".

This storm is lined up behind Florence in the Atlantic.

It has been a calmer than-normal tropical storm season up until this point, yet things are grabbing big: three hurricanes are beating in the Atlantic, with Hurricane Florence quickly moving toward the US East Coast. This rainfall may cause risky flash flooding. Florence remains a unsafe Cat 4 with max winds of 130 miles per hour with a NW movement of 15 miles per hour.

Its warning, in force between 6pm on Monday and midday on Tuesday, said "very strong winds" could pose the risk of "injuries and danger to life" because of flying debris.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe, while watches were in effect for Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua, and Saba and St. Eustatius.

Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 4 inches are possible across the south-central portion of the Dominican Republic, southwest Haiti and Jamaica.

All eyes are on Hurricane Florence and its path toward the Carolinas, but several other hurricanes are brewing as well.

The National Hurricane Center said that the storm is Category 4 in strength. Vertical shear is expected to increase and turn more northwesterly during the next 36 hours, and Isaac's structure could degrade further over the next day or two.

Isaac was a hurricane Sunday night but downgraded when maximum sustained winds fell below 74 miles per hour.

However, it accepted there "remains large uncertainty in Helene's exact track". Download the WFXG First Alert Weather app to stay updated on the storm.
