Trump made false claim about economy, GDP, unemployment rate: White House

Yet it was 50 words about the media that undercut Obama's credibility with the absurd claim that he - unlike Trump - didn't "threaten the freedom of the press". However, Fox Business reports this as false.

Hours later, Hassett said during a White House briefing that the GDP rate was higher than the unemployment rate for the first time in a decade.

In fact, US GDP growth has been higher than the unemployment rate in several quarters during the last century, including, most recently, in 2006.

Hassett told reporters the GDP growth rate is higher than the unemployment rate for the first time in 10 years, not 100 as the president suggested in his tweet.

"It's definitely better when it's true than when it's not", said Justin Wolfers, professor of economics at University of MI. "It's not just wrong, it's very, very wrong".

The first two numbers are correct, although they measure completely different things, and in different ways.

The White House on Monday acknowledged the president tweeted inaccurate claims about the economy.

He tweeted simply, "Happy Anniversary", captioning a video of the former Democratic presidential nominee speaking at a fundraiser in New York City, saying half of Donald Trump's supporters belong in a "basket of deplorables" characterized by "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic" views.

"I guess I have a magic wand", Trump said, pointing to 4.2 percent GDP growth in the last quarter.

Here's Hassett explaining how historians will "100 percent accept the fact" that the economy improved after Trump's election. Sanders stated that while the numbers were true, the time frame was incorrect.

Of course, anyone paying attention at all during Obama's tenure in the White House knows this is peak absurdity; Obama himself frequently fomented hatred and division based on race, gender, economic status, and political ideology.
