Here are 3 more hurricanes that aren't named Florence

Hurricane Florence has been upgraded to a "potentially catastrophic" Category 4 storm sparking fears of 130mph winds and widespread destruction across much of the United States east coast.

According to The Weather Channel, a typhoon named Mangkhut is also intensifying in the western Pacific and is on track to hit Guam, Rota, Saipan and Tinian on Monday. He also provided helpful pre- and post-storm tips to keep in mind to help keep you and your family safe.

This many concurrent tropical cyclones is notable, according to NHC scientist Eric Blake.

Hurricane Florence strengthened "rapidly" on Monday, September 10, and is now a powerful Category 4 hurricane, USA forecasters said, as governors of 3 eastern U.S. states declared an emergency and told residents to prepare for the storm. The National Hurricane Center predicts the storm will be a Category 4 by Tuesday or Wednesday, and it's possible that it could become a Category 5 at some point.

The storm was moving west-northwest at around nine miles per hour, and was forecast to drench a large swath of the US East Coast running from northern Florida to New Jersey.

State of Emergency has been declared by North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Once it makes landfall, Florence is predicted to stall and remain over North Carolina for at least 24 hours - increasing the threat of unsafe flooding, NHC director Ken Graham said on Monday.

Roy Cooper said he had asked President Trump for a federal disaster declaration ahead of the storm.

In South Carolina, the price gouging law is now in effect. "Make your plans now", he said.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Florence has the makings of an "extremely dangerous" meteorological event, the BBC reports.

Dr. Rick Knabb, hurricane expert at The Weather Channel, tells NPR that it's important not to focus exclusively on the coast when it comes to Florence's potential impact. It was not immediately clear how many people were being evacuated.

In response to the upgrade, meteorologists and weather-trackers warned people to pay attention to future developments.

Food, bottled water, flashlight batteries and plywood flew off the shelves at stores throughout the mid-Atlantic, and in coastal Charleston, SC, city officials were handing out sandbags to residents.

Hurricane season is in full swing after forecasters predicted that 2018's stint could be as devastating as 2017 when all is said and done.

Storm surge and hurricane watches may be issued Tuesday morning for portions of southeastern USA states, the NHC said. Olivia should weaken through Tuesday but remain a strong tropical storm when it reaches the Hawaiian Islands.

"I don't think many of us have ever been through a Category 4".

The U.S. Navy is also taking precautions, with the U.S. Fleet Forces Command ordering almost 30 ships in the Hampton Roads area of the Virginia coast to head out to sea to avoid the storm.
