The Eagles confirm they trolled Tom Brady with Philly Special 2.0

Quaterback Nick Foles will start under center instead.

Now, that's how you catch a football.

In the Super Bowl champions' first game of the season on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles defeated the Atlanta Falcons 18-12 by ripping a page from the Patriots' old playbook.

"That's where we got it from", Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. "We were on the correct hash mark and it was the right time of the game".

Needing to inject some life into the unit, Pederson dialed up a play similar to the "Philly Special" that came to define the Eagles' Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.

"I mean, it's a good play", Foles said. Jenkins raised his fist during "The Star-Spangled Banner" past year and in the first preseason game as one of the most high-profile National Football League players protesting racial inequality and other social injustices.

"That's a total disrespect for everything we stand for", he said. "When you have to make the plays, you either make them or you don't". "It felt like the right time".

Deion Jones then intercepted Foles' pass that bounced out of Dallas Goedert's hands and returned it 20 yards to Philadelphia's 27, setting up Tevin Coleman's 9-yard TD run that gave the Falcons a 12-10 lead in the fourth quarter.

It was the most excitement for a while on a hot, muggy night that seemed more like an August preseason game than a playoff rematch.

RED ZONE WOES: The Falcons were 1 for 5 in the red zone after struggling inside the opponents' 20 past year. On the first drive of the game, Matt Ryan marched his offense down the field until about four or five yards outside of the red zone. He had 10 receptions for 169 yards but didn't score. "We knew coming in this was going to be a good matchup defensively, offensively and all in different areas but that part of our game clearly tonight we didn't execute at the level we'd like and we've got work to do".

Jay Ajayi had 62 yards rushing on 15 carries.

This time Julio Jones caught the ball.

Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks had 1½ sacks in his first game since rupturing his Achilles tendon last October.

The play was ruled incomplete, but the Falcons went ahead and challenged.

Trailing 3-6 to open the second half, Philadelphia came out flying and turned the tables after getting momentum from a play that may look a bit familiar.
