Elon Musk smokes weed on the Joe Rogan Experience

(TSLA.O) has reached a fever pitch, with the news that two senior executives are leaving Elon Musk's electric-car maker emerging hours after he smoked marijuana during a podcast interview streamed live online.

"Although the majority of shareholders I spoke to said they would remain with Tesla if we went private, the sentiment, in a nutshell, was 'please don't do this, '" Musk wrote in a Tesla blog post.

Separately, human resources chief Gabrielle Toledano told Bloomberg she planned to exit the company, rather than return from a leave of absence.

Tesla share prices took a hit amounting to as much as 9 percent today, after billionaire CEO Elon Musk took a hit off what looked like as a marijuana stogie during a YouTube talk show.

Elon Musk sparked concern with shareholders after smoking marijuana live web show with United States comedian Joe Rogan late Thursday night while discussing a plethora of random subjects, including artificial, flame throwers and social media.

He and Musk discussed pot being legal in California.

However, Musk admitted that "the electric airplane isn't necessary right now", as he is focusing on other things, including the many issues he's dealing with at Tesla right now.

Late Friday evening, Tesla announced an executive reshuffling, after a month or more of chaos within the company. Tesla is now worth roughly $21 billion less than it was in the immediate aftermath of Musk's infamous "funding secured" tweet.

Even before the announcement of Morton's departure, the company's shares were already seeing a slight decline in Friday's pre-market trading as reports of Elon Musk's behavior in a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan emerged.

Clips of the unexpected smoke break have quickly gone viral, catching the attention of Musk's friends and business partners.

Earlier this week, Tesla and Musk got a jolt of good news in the form of positive sales numbers reported by InsideEVs.com for August.

The negative press Musk has received since his tweet last month about potentially taking the company private likely has some investors concerned about the executive's responsibilities.

The billionaire entrepreneur addressed his tumultuous year in an emotional interview with The New York Times in August, in which he admitted he was experiencing the "most hard and painful year" of his career.

The spot on one of the most popular podcasts in the USA marks Musk's first appearance in a public forum since he stunned the financial world last month with his short-lived effort to take Tesla private. I appreciate his ingenuity and creativity and we like the Tesla products we own.

In another sign of trouble for Tesla, the company's chief accounting officer resigned Tuesday after only one month in the role, saying the level of scrutiny on the company had made him reconsider the job.
