Celtics’ guard Jabari Bird arrested after

The Boston Celtics selected Bird as the 56th pick of the 2017 National Basketball Association draft.

Celtics wing Jabari Bird was arrested Friday in Brighton after allegedly kidnapping, strangling and assaulting someone in a domestic violence incident, according to the Boston police. He averaged 3.0 points, 0.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 13 games for Boston.

Celtics president Danny Ainge declined to comment to multiple outlets this morning, though the team released a statement. "The victim involved in the incident was also transported to a separate hospital for treatment of injuries sustained".

The Celtics acknowledged in a statement that they were "aware of the incident" involving Bird and are "taking it very seriously".

Bird is being held at a local hospital for an evaluation, Boston police said.

"He is expected to appear in Brighton District Court on Monday, where complaints will be sought against him", Sergeant John Boyle, a spokesman for the Boston Police Department, said. Bird was signed to the Celtics' active roster this summer.

Bird was a second round pick by the team a year ago.

Boston police say Bird is facing charges including assault and battery, strangulation and kidnapping.
