Barack Obama Finally Rips President Trump Over Nazis, Freedom of Press

Former US President Barack Obama has strongly criticised President Donald Trump and Republicans and urged Democrats to deliver a vital check on their "abuses of power" and restore a sense of sanity to politics by voting in November's elections.

He said over the past few decades, the "politics of division and resentment and paranoia has found a home in the Republican party". He noted that he, too, had high-profile detractors, but while most presidents grumble about the media's adversarial role, none have matched Trump's incendiary rhetoric.

Obama is also planning campaign trips to Pennsylvania in September, according to ABC 7 in Chicago, along with a NY fundraiser for the progressive National Democratic Redistricting Committee, led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, Obama's longtime friend.

He also criticised the op-ed that took appeared in the New York Times this week, that claimed that there were people in the White House intentionally not following Trump's orders. Obama is likely to be less helpful in some of the most competitive Senate races playing out in states Trump won. However, the data, in fact, show that Obama oversaw a steady, if somewhat disappointing, economic recovery, and those trends have continued in Trump's first term. Obama asked in a speech at the University of IL. Not follow them. We're supposed to stand up to discrimination, and we're sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers. He also criticized Republicans in Congress for failing to hold Trump accountable.

Obama criticized Trump during a speech Friday in IL, calling the current president "the symptom, not the cause" of division and polarization in the U.S. "Suddenly deficits do not matter", Obama said.

Republicans, and many naïve journalists, liked to attribute the hysterical right-wing backlash against Barack Obama to a sudden upsurge in fiscal conservatism.

Meanwhile, former first lady Michelle Obama is taking a bit of a different approach by not directly campaigning for Democrats but doing voter registration for the midterms and beyond through the newly created "When We All Vote".

Obama also criticized recent Republican policy moves such as the $1.5 trillion in tax cuts that ballooned the nation's budget deficit, but which party leaders hoped would be a winning issue during midterm campaigns.

Obama has spent much of 2018 away from the political fray, focusing on writing his book and raising money for his post-presidency foundation.

The speech marked Obama's strongest rebuke of Trump since he left office in January 2017. He will spend this Saturday in California stumping for seven congressional candidates at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee event and will head to OH next week to campaign for gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray.

Obama's remarks come as the midterm election enters full swing.
