'Doctor Who' announces season 11 premiere date

The start date for the new series of 'Doctor Who' has been confirmed, with the BBC moving the sci-fi show to Sunday nights. It has been confirmed by the BBC that Season 11 of the long-running sci-fi adventure will premiere in both the USA and United Kingdom on October 7. Between Chibnall's fresh vision for the beloved sci-fi staple; the suite of brand new writers, including Doctor Who's first writers of color; Whittaker taking over Timelord duties and this Sunday timeslot, the next season of Doctor Who will hopefully mark the beginning of a revitalized age of Doctor Who history that takes the show into the future while still paying homage to the best parts of its past. The first episode of the new season will be titled 'The Woman who Fell to Earth, ' a play on the title of the classic David Bowie movie The Man who Fell to Earth.

Doctor Who returns Sunday, Oct. 7 on BBC America. The premiere will be timed to the United Kingdom broadcast, followed by a primetime encore in its new Sunday night time slot (which remains TBA). It's going to be anything but business as usual when the Doctor returns this fall, that much is clear. "We've got 10 standalone stories", Chibnall said last month at San Diego Comic-Con. It's an appropriate title given that in the latest Season 11 promo (and this GIF), Thirteen looks to be catching her breath after literally falling to the ground.

Jodie Whittaker " s first series at the helm of the TARDIS will kick off on BBC One on Sunday 7 October, with the move show's to the end of the week being billed as a "new era" for "Doctor Who'.

Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who tenure will begin in New Zealand on Monday, October 8.

"New Doctor, new home!" said showrunner Chris Chibnall, in a statement.

Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) will be joining the series as the Thirteenth Doctor's new companions.
