Underwood initially competed on Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorette, though he was ultimately sent home towards the end of the season. He thanked her for her friendship, noting that he knew it would continue beyond the time they had in Mexico.

The 26-year-old gained attention for opening up about his virginity on Kufrin's season, where he placed fourth. Underwood said after the announcement was made Tuesday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America". After spending several episodes with Tia Booth, he finally confessed things were not going to work out between then and drove away in tears once again.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that "it was something that I hid and I lied about it a lot growing up in high school and in college due to sports".

Colton is best known in Bachelor Nation for his relationship with fellow contestant Tia Booth.

Underwood's season of The Bachelor premieres in January 2019.
