Samsung in 2011 revealed plans to make a folding phone in its keynote address; as recently as previous year, it showed a folding phone prototype to some members of the media.
Samsung mobile CEO DJ Kohtold CNBC that, as of this year, Samsung mobile will "bring technology and differentiation starting from the mid-end", starting with its Galaxy A lineup.
Koh did not give any details about how Samsung will execute this device. But unless you're in dire need of an upgrade, the smart move is to wait for what the next iPhone, Pixel and even Galaxy S10 bring.
Koh didn't disclose any specifications about the smartphone but he announced that company will unveil the smartphone at Samsung Developers Conference 2018, which is set for November 7-8 in San Francisco.
Not much is known about the foldable phone, nicknamed the Galaxy X, except that it will likely be the size of a small tablet, be a little bulkier than a normal phone while folded, and that it will nearly certainly be pricey.
While Koh didn't go into specifics about the device, he did boast that it would wow consumers and that anyone who uses the device will immediately understand why Samsung made it.
