Huawei all set to launch Mate 20 series on 16 October

The Huawei Mate 20 is set to be the first device to feature it due on 16 October 2018 in London. The Hisilicon Kirin 980 was officially unveiled a short while ago and is the world's first 7nm chipset. This has reportedly been done to keep the A76's power consumption under control. In tandem with Huawei's Flex-Scheduling technology the Kirin 980 SoC can automatically "designate the high-performance cores to handle immediate, intensive workloads, the high-efficiency cores to provide sustained performance, and ultra-efficiency cores to tackle every day, light activities with extreme power efficiency". First, the company announced its newest high-end mobile processor, the Kirin 980, and confirmed it would be packed into the future flagship smartphone, the Mate 20.

The rumours point to the Mate 20 series following in the footsteps of the P20 Pro with a triple rear camera array - though rumours say the phones will differ with the Mate 20 Pro getting a 40MP, 20MP and 8MP camera setup, while the Mate 20 will have a 12MP, 20MP and 8MP triple camera system.

Based on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturer Company's (TSMC) 7nm process, Kirin 980 delivers 20 per cent improved SoC performance and 40 per cent more efficiency, said Huawei which surpassed Apple to become the second-largest global smartphone seller behind Samsung in the second quarter of this year.

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite is powered by a 3750mAh.

When it comes to video, the Kirin 980 allows the camera to shoot with 33 per cent less delay.

For its new processor, Huawei embeds Cortex-A76 cores - another first, according to the company.

Graphics performance also gets a big boost with the Kirin 980 turning to the Mali-G76 as its GPU.

That should mean better gaming experiences, even when comparing Huawei's phones to other platforms. But the Kirin 980 finally makes up for all of this and Huawei should be proud.

Not only was the Kirin 980 made using TMSC's N7 node, it is also the first to feature the new Cortex A76s as 4 of its 8 cores.

"The Kirin 980 will be used in smartphones and tablets". The Kirin 980 can apparently recognise up to 4,600 images per minute, which is up 120 per cent compared to Kirin 970.

The gold standard for GPU performance is still Qualcomm's Adreno lineup and only if the G76 can outperform the current Adreno 630 or the upcoming Snapdragon 855's chip, will Huawei be able to stand out in the market.
