"At Samsung, we've worked tirelessly over the years to move the industry forward when it comes to premium picture quality, and the introduction of the Q900FN with 8K AI Upscaling is an integral component as we look to the future of displays". LG is introducing the first 8K OLED TV at the show, reports DigiTimes.
Samsung's QLED 8K TVs will be available from the end of September 2018.
To achieve 8K-quality images, the Samsung Q900R features Real 8K Resolutioncapable of 4,000 nit peak brightness - a standard met by most film studios. At CES earlier this year, Samsung unveiled a prototype with a MFA (Micro Full Array) backlight behind the LCD panel but there is no mention of MFA in the press announcement at IFA. They have also been certified with 100 per cent colour volume capability. All models will also bundle in Real 8K resolution, Q HDR 8K, and Quantum Processor 8K enhancements. Together with Panasonic and 20th Century Fox, Samsung has formed an alliance to push the competing HDR10+ format. The South Korean tech firm has not yet revealed the pricing and availability details of the Q900R 8K QLED TVs. But we've yet to see how well it can upscale lower resolution content - and no matter how good it is, it'll never make up for the lack of 8K content out there. We still do not how much they will cost but we expect them to be significantly cheaper than LGs 8K OLED TV.
Meanwhile, the display also includes several lifestyle and smart features like support for Samsung's One Remote, Ambient Mode, The One Invisible Connection cable, SmartThings, and the Universal Guide. When I got up close to the 85-inch model, I was astounded by the amount of sharp detail among individual blades of grass, inside of windows in a skyscraper.
