Jim Carrey was previously announced as the classic villain Doctor Robotnik, with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter rounding out the cast.

Sonic the Hedgehog was a giant hit after debuting on the SEGA Genesis in 1991.

Ben Schwartz is making a dash for Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog. There's Dewy from the new Duck Tales, who is blue. It was confirmed that Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, House of Lies) will provide the voice for the title character.

When asked about how Carrey will recreate Dr. Robotnik, the actor and comedian shouted his solution to the TCA crowd.

Envisioned as a synthesis of live-action and CGI, the film is to center around Sonic and his friends Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna. Have you seen any of Schwartz's work? On top of that, Schwartz also provides the voice of the blue clad Dewey Duck on Disney XD's revamp of DuckTales. "It will be live-action", Carrey said, regarding the movie.

The Sonic movie is being directed by Jeff Fowler, whose 2005 animated movie Gopher Broke was nominated for an Oscar.

Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to start filming this year, with a planned release date of November 15, 2019. Visual effects master and Deadpool director Tim Miller is on board as an executive producer and Neal H. Moritz (the Fast and Furious franchise) is producing too.
