Melania Trump Praises LeBron James After Donald Trump Disses him

Melania Trump proved she has an independent mind when she praised LeBron James' new I promise school for underprivileged children right after Donald Trump dissed him on Twitter. This comes less than 24 hours after Donald Trump, 72, threw shade at LeBron and CNN's Don Lemon as he questioned LBJ's intelligence and called Lemon the "dumbest" man in news. The former reality TV star ended the tweet with "I like Mike", seemingly siding with Michael Jordan in the GOAT debate.

In behaviour that has become the normal for the 45th US President, Trump took to his personal Twitter account to post a late-night tweet bashing James.

She also noted that Mrs Trump's Be Best initiative promoted responsible online behaviour, in perhaps another not so subtle dig at her husband. "Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron". "Tweet about that. (A) professional athlete doing a good thing for his community".

The three-time National Basketball Association champion, who recently signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, told Lemon he thought the president was using sports to divide the country.

The school, which is a joint effort of the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools, will benefit at-risk children. The interview was meant to discuss the opening of the school LeBron helped found, but the conversation quickly turned political.

Her statement comes after a back-and-forth between James and her husband.

Ignoring Trump's compliment, Michael Jordan sided with James in a statement issued Saturday: "I support LeBron James".

OH governor John Kasich, a Republican like Trump, and former newscaster Dan Rather also criticized the President's tweet about James. And I got an opportunity to see them and learn about them and they got an opportunity to learn about me and we became friends.

This weekend's controversy was just the latest in a long-running feud between James and the president. Stephen Curry, who Mr. Trump claimed previous year he disinvited from the White House, wrote "Keep doing you" with a link to James' interview.

James described Trump as a "bum" following the furore.
