Brooklyn Family Attacked With Acetone And Brooms By Nail Salon Workers

The incident happened last week at New Red Apple Nails on Nostrand Avenue near Martense Street.

Police attended the scene and arrested a salon worker along with one of the customers on Friday night - however it remains unclear as to which one.

The video now has more than 700,000 views with many on Facebook urged people to stop supporting the nail salon. "[They are] hitting them like animals". (If the) police say you pay for the pedicure, then you pay for the pedicure.

The salon was open for business on Monday but closed early, with police escorting workers to a waiting van. Another woman can be seen on camera intervening and then a melee ensued.

Police later charged Huiyue Zheng, 32 of Brooklyn, with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harrassment. Customer Christina Thomas was charged with misdemeanor assault and also released on her own recognizance.

Police told Pix11 that Zheng had been hospitalized and had injuries on her face and body. The young lady paid for her feet/nails but refused to pay for her eyebrows because she was unsatisfied. At least one protester screamed, "where is ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement)?" implying that the salon's Asian employees might be undocumented immigrants.

A salon customer was arrested as well.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page for New Red Apple Nail salon has been flooded with negative reviews and backlash over the incident.

"I'm expecting justice, but most of all I'm expecting black people to learn that when these business don't respect you, you don't spend your money with them", one protester, Tionna Smalls, told ABC7 NY.

"There is no respect for people in this neighborhood", said 49-year-old Gavin Gibbs, a neighborhood resident, the New York Daily News reported. "If we go into an establishment to get something done, and then we end up being assaulted, something certainly needs to happen to that establishment". Several people held signs stating "Black $$$ matters" and chanted "black dollars matter".

Similar comments appeared on a livestream of the protests taking place outside the salon. "We will come, we will picket it and we'll do whatever we have to close your store down".
