Was the assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro real?

In this case, Maduro wasn't targeted by a lone gunman or any person at all - his "attacker" was a pair of explosive-carrying drones.

Seven people were injured following what appeared to be drone-type flying devices detonating above mass crowds in the parade.

He further said the alleged assassination constituted a "betrayal to the motherland, intentional homicide attempt, terrorism, association to commit a crime and financing terrorism".

He said the Venezuelan political far right in collaboration with the Colombian far right and Colombian President Santos were behind the attack.

U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Sunday that there was no U.S. government involvement in the recent assassination plot against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He also blamed Venezuelans living in the United States.

Venezeula's interior minister, Néstor Reverol said the arrested individuals were involved in loading two drones with explosives, and attempted to carry out an attack against Mr Maduro.

DEMOCRATIZED DESTRUCTION. The nature of the attack means there's really not a lot of identifying information for who the assassins might be. DJI, the Chinese company that makes the drone, said its products are "purely for peaceful purposes" and that it stands ready to assist investigators. Its $5,000 price tag isn't too cheap, but it's not too expensive, either, and anyone can order one online.

This isn't the first armed drone attack, either. No one died during that attempt, either, but that's unlikely to discourage future attackers.

In response, Mr Bolton said: "If the government of Venezuela has hard information that they want to present to us that would show a potential violation of United States criminal law, we'll take a serious look at it".

Santos, meanwhile, tweeted directly to Maduro, saying, "Don't worry". Ivan Duque takes over as Colombian president this week.
