President Trump appears to change his story about meeting

He initially denied he met with any Russians on behalf of the campaign and now he admits the meeting was to get damaging information about Clinton.

On Sunday, Trump tweeted an apparent response to stories by CNN and The Washington Post that said he is anxious about Donald Trump Jr.'s legal exposure following the infamous 2016 meeting.

Others have said the meeting could provide clues to a broader conspiracy by Trump officials with Russians.

"Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower".

However, he revealed in his tweet what many have alleged for more than a year: that the infamous Trump Tower meeting during the height of the 2016 presidential campaign was about obtaining damaging information on Clinton, his opponent for the White House, whom Trump did not specifically mention in his tweet.

He concluded by further distancing himself from the meeting his son arranged, writing, "I did not know about it!" He tweeted in July 2017: "Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don jr attended in order to get info on an opponent". He campaigned for a Republican candidate facing a tough race Tuesday for a seat in the House of Representatives, the last special election before the nationwide November 6 voting, when the entire 435-member House is being contested and a third of the 100-member Senate.

Sekulow also on "This Week" supported the president's claim that there was nothing legally questionable about Trump Jr. having the June 2016 meeting with the Russians. "I am providing a great service by explaining this to the American People".

Trump Jr respond.ed "I love it", when first offered the political "dirt" on Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.

Trump has denied he had any prior knowledge of the meeting and repeated that claim on Sunday. Last week, however, he adopted his lawyers' tactics and insisted "collusion is not a crime".

He has called the ongoing investigations in the United States "the greatest political witch hunt in history".

This is something Trump has said regularly about the Trump Tower meeting, and something he has re-upped now that Michael Cohen is reportedly telling people that Trump did know about it.

Mr Trump's latest tweet appears to contradict a previous statement from the Trump camp about the meeting.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to shut down the Mueller investigation.

Multiple White House officials have been interviewed while still working at the White House and have remained in contact with the president.

"I had bad information at that time and made a mistake in my statement", Sekulow said on ABC's "This Week".

US intelligence agencies concluded a year ago that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA election with a campaign of hacking into Democratic Party computer networks and spreading disinformation on social media.
