Google Pixel 3 release date revealed in extraordinary leak

Today we're officially introducing Android 9 Pie. With a single, clean home button, you can swipe up to see a newly designed Overview, the spot where at a glance you have full-screen previews of your recently used apps.

Google today confirmed Android 9.0 Pie.

While the Android 9 Oreo operating system is available right now for Pixel owners, some specific features won't actually "ship" until the fall.

The first phones to get the Android 9 Pie are going to be Google's own Pixels, aka official Android phones. Pie will roll out to devices in the Android P Beta Program - like those from Sony, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus - as well as qualifying Android One devices by the end of this fall.

Google's Pixel devices are perhaps the flawless iPhone alternative for Android fans.

A massive leak has revealed that the Google Pixel 3 (and its larger sibling, undoubtedly) will be announced on Thursday, 4 October and be available to order on the same day. It does come with support for a few gestures that are similar to what we have seen in the iPhone X. But despite keeping the same material design - now whiter and flatter - it is definitely a bigger release than the Android 8 was compared to the Android 7. You can find a majority of the details about the update on the dedicated Android 9.0 Pie website.

It's not on board the Galaxy S8/Galaxy Note 8/Galaxy S7 Android Oreo updates (at least not yet), but Google's Project Treble, one of Oreo's key ingredients, is on board the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. This includes a Dashboard to show you exactly how much you've been using your phone and an App Timer to help you control your usage.

Android Central spoke with EK Chung, the UX manager for Android handheld and Pixel at Google.

Well, this one sort of took us by surprise.

Another new feature is Adaptive Brightness, which learns "how you like to set the brightness in different settings, and does it for you". For example, you might be getting ready for your commute to work, and App Actions will suggest navigation in Google Maps or resuming an audiobook in Google Play Books. The digital wellness features are all still in beta, and won't be included when you get the update.
