'Mission: Impossible 6' Wins the Weekend with $35-M

Testament to the undimmed star power of Tom Cruise, the sixth edition of the 22-year-old Mission: Impossible franchise dominated ticket sales around the world last weekend.

"Christopher Robin", Disney's live-action adaptation based on characters from Winnie the Pooh, picked up an additional US$4.8 million internationally for a global start of US$29.5 million.

The sequel added another $35.0 million in receipts this weekend, bringing its cumulative haul to $124.5 million.

To celebrate the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Paramount Pictures and PUBG Corp have partnered up to offer a month long cross-over.

"Christopher Robin" received a positive review with a strong "A" rating from moviegoers on CinemaScore.

Falling short of expectations, Disney's fantasy comedy film "Christopher Robin" opened in second place with an estimated 25 million dollars.

Landing with a thud in third was Lionsgate's action comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me with a lifeless $12.3 million from 3,111 theaters.

The film is already placed comfortably amongst the Top-10 biggest Hollywood grossers in India, is a Hit, and could well be moving towards the Superhit mark. Here We Go Again whistled up $2.46 million, dropping by a reasonable 37 cent. It also brought in $92 million from overseas after premiering in 36 worldwide markets.

Also of note: Disney has announced that "Black Panther" has taken in more than $700 million in North America since its release in February, joining only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Avatar" in that exclusive category.

Cruise, who can be seen hanging for his life from the cliff in one of the most crucial scenes from the movie, did not attend the screening but encouraged fans via Twitter.
