Johnny Manziel benched after throwing four interceptions

After completing a pass for a 5-yard loss on his first play, Manziel threw an interception on the second - with the 2012 Heisman Trophy victor bringing down linebacker Larry Dean. He also ran the ball twice for 4 yards.

It was impossible to ignore the flood of Johnny Manziel jerseys as I walked from the metro into Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Friday.

The second interception is one you could argue was on the receiver, but overall, it doesn't change that Manziel played poorly.

"I just want to come in and be a solid starter, eliminate turnovers and hopefully make some plays when needed".

For those that were disappointed that the Browns didn't give former Quarterback Johnny Manziel another chance to stay with the team and take more snaps in the National Football League, this story is for you. For the first time in his career, he was intercepted four times, and Montreal trailed his former team 38-3 at halftime.

"But I didn't lack any confidence coming into the game".

Manziel struggled mightily in the first half, tossing several head-scratching throws that showcased a level of bad decision-making only surpassed by his unfamiliarity with the offense.

The Alouettes are 1-5 and have won just once in 17 games going back a year. I feel I can contribute that for sure. I let some things get away from me, and it's unfortunate.

"It didn't look like anybody was ready today", Montreal coach Mike Sherman said.

There were moments where Manziel showed off some of the ability that captivated football fans when he rose to prominence in 2012 as the Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M. But for a few lost moments on Friday night he was Johnny Football again. [You] learn from them, because I don't want to have this feeling again. Through the first six games of the season, the Als only have one win. "He's going out there to do a good job moving the football for us and I believe he'll do that".

Despite the poor performance, Manziel was upbeat after the game and optimistic about the future.
