Democrats say Trump’s Mueller tweets were obstruction of justice

The president then lashed out at Robert Mueller, comparing the special counsel's entourage to a biased angry and anti-Republican mob only interested in causing further trouble for the Trump administration.

Trump, in a series of tweets blasting the investigation, said Sessions should "stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further". He also called it a "a disgrace to USA".

California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, raised the question on Twitter Wednesday shortly after Trump's remark.

The president once again voices his frustration with the Russian Federation probe, calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to halt the investigation. She insisted the president's tweets are an "opinion" - but not an order.

President Trump attorneys say both sides have exchanged proposals for conditions for such an interview.

Mueller has wanted to question Trump about that possible obstruction of justice, along with potential collusion between his campaign and the Kremlin, for months. Tribe explains: "At the very least, therefore, even if one buys the distinction between "should" and more imperative language, this was an "endeavor" to undercut the investigation by pressuring Sessions to take the illegal and unethical action of re-inserting himself into the investigation and shutting down Mueller's probe".

Even as his lawyers rushed to explain what Trump intended, the president continued to tweet about the Russian Federation probe. They have been prepared to tell Mr. Mueller's office there will be no interview, risking a court fight over a subpoena that could drag into November's midterm elections, but Mr. Trump pushed them to continue negotiating.

Trump tweeted on Wednesday that Manafort "worked for me for a very short period of time" but sought to defend his former aide's bona fides.

Trump was angered by Sessions' recusal and attempted to pressure the former Alabama senator to change his mind, specifically so that Sessions could retain control of Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, according to a New York Times report.

Yesterday was the first day of his former campaign head Manafort's trial on charges of tax evasion and bank fraud which were brought by Mueller's team.

Several pundits and legal experts have reported that anyone found collaborating with Russian Federation during the 2016 election could be charged with other crimes, including conspiracy.

The president's tweets on Wednesday were greeted warily on Capitol Hill, with most lawmakers, regardless of party, urging Trump to let the probe run its course. Former White House counsel Norman Eisen tells me that while "this is not a formal legal order through official channels, it is much more than a mere opinion". It won't go into a Mueller Report because Mueller is going to protect these guys.

By making such a tweet, Sanders argued that Trump is not indulging in obstruction of justice.

"I don't know why Rudy seemed to think that obstruction by tweet is a insane notion", Rodgers said.

Sanders said Trump wants Mueller's investigation concluded swiftly without intervention, though Trump has publicly mused as recently as May about interfering in the Department of Justice's oversight of the probe. "What they are doing is something that is important and we support and I don't think any efforts to truncate that or somehow shut it down early is in the public's best interest".
