Tesla sells limited-edition $1500 surfboard, hits eBay for $4K

Elon Musk's most recent innovation is a limited edition United States dollars 1,500 surfboard, branded with the Tesla logo.

Elon Musk has a knack for selling weird branded merchandise that has nothing to do with what his companies actually do - remember The Boring Company's flamethrowers? Now it looks like the company is back with its latest zero-emission "vehicle" which comes in the form of a surfboard.

WTF?! Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been known to have the occasional unusual product idea, and he seems intent on continuing that trend with the company's latest product: a $1,500 surfboard, which sold out mere hours after it launched. "The deck is reinforced with light-weight "Black Dart" carbon fiber, inspired by the interiors in our cars, and featuring tonal logos in subtle contrast gloss".

Tesla's website said that the red and black surfboards include the same finish that can be found on Tesla's cars. Tesla declined to go on record about whether or not the motivations had anything to do with the company's recent financial struggles (it recently reached out to suppliers to ask for refunds on past contracts). According to The Drive, the Tesla boards appear to be geared toward collectors, and not for riding the actual waves.

According to Electrek, Tesla partnered up with Lost Surfboards and surfboard maker Matt Biolos to create a design that was both aesthetically pleasing and effective. Even those who were lucky enough to buy one will have to wait up to 10 weeks before their board gets delivered.
