Carmelo Anthony traded from Thunder to Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks are expected to buy out Melo and make him an unrestricted free agent.

On Thursday afternoon, the answer arrived.

The Thunder will then send Muscala to the Philadelphia 76ers for forward Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, league sources said. He's also an asset that could stay or be traded again.

Anthony will never play a game for the Hawks. The trade still saves the Thunder almost $100 million in luxury tax payments as they take on Schroder's contract worth $15.5 million per year, according to Wojnarowski. According to Wojnarowski, the Houston Rockets are the frontrunners.

To put that in context: No team in National Basketball Association history has cleared the $200 million barrier.

The long-awaited Carmelo Anthony trade took place moments ago. Schroder shared a photo of himself in a photoshopped Oklahoma City jersey. By trading him away, OKC has reportedly saved over $100 million in salary and taxes.

They should add much needed depth to the Thunder line-up. It would have counted against the salary cap, and Oklahoma City would have had no way to get it off the books.

The fit isn't flawless, though. The 15-year veteran averaged 16.2 points per game, the only time in his career, his season scoring average has dipped below 20 points per game.

The pick is protected 1-14 in 2022 and will become two second rounders if it doesn't convey. Part of the reason the return wasn't greater is that the move involved getting rid of Schroder.

Last season, Schroeder averaged 1.09 points per possession on isolation-based plays. The Hawks also added Brooklyn's Jeremy Lin.

Until the past few days, that may have been the extent of the impact of this trade.

"A Heat agreement with Anthony could assure a Heat return by Wade, a close friend who now is a free agent", he wrote. The Hawks requested waivers on guard Jaylen Morris, who appeared in six games with the team last season.

Luwawu-Cabarrot, 23, was selected 24 overall by the Sixers back in the 2016 NBA Draft. He's likely to get a chance to replace Josh Huestis in Oklahoma City's rotation.
