Tropical Storm Chris projected to become hurricane

Hurricane Chris was downgraded to a tropical storm on Thursday, after moving away from the United States toward Newfoundland, Canada, the National Hurricane Center said. It boasts maximum sustained winds of around 105 miles per hour, and it's moving to the northeast at 10 miles per hour. It's expected to remain "well offshore" of the US coast, forecasters say, instead steadily heading for Newfoundland while picking up forward speed through Thursday night.
The storm is bringing rough conditions and rip currents.
Although the storm is several hundred miles off of our coast, it's still creating risky surf conditions up and down the entire North Carolina coastline. The National Hurricane Center gauges its redevelopment odds at 50% within the next five days.
Chris was racing northeast at 35 miles per hour and was forecast to pass near or over extreme southeastern Newfoundland later today or tonight.
Forecasters also expect Chris to produce 1 to 3 inches of rain over Newfoundland. This system is expected to move west-northwestward across the rest of Hispaniola today and over the southeastern Bahamas this evening.
Before then, temperatures in Britain will continue to peak in the high 20s with highs of 30C possible in south-east England at the weekend.
Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Boudreau said the worst of the weather was expected to subside by midnight, with sunny conditions forecast for Friday.
