Chris Paul wants to ‘Big Three’ the Rockets by adding Carmelo Anthony

What could make a trade easier, however, is if Anthony and his representation knew he was going to immediately be waived by the team which traded for him, thus making him eligible to sign with Houston, or even Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers, who are also reportedly interested in the 15-year veteran. They already lost key contributors Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute in free agency.

Carmelo Anthony is expected to hit the free agent market soon, as the Oklahoma City Thunder are reportedly working on either a buyout or a stretching of his contract. If Carmelo is really determined to play with CP3, who is his close friend, he could sign a team-friendly deal with Houston.

Anthony is now a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the two sides are reportedly working on parting ways, whether through a trade, a buyout or waiving via the stretch provision.

Anthony opted into the final year of his near $28m deal last month, contributing to a dangerously-inflated payroll that now sits at around $310m in OKC. He averaged just 11.8 points and shot 37.5 percent from the field for the Thunder in its first-round playoff loss to Utah.

Rockets point guard Chris Paul has been "advocating" the club add Anthony according to Yahoo's Jordan Schultz.

Those two teams have emerged as top candidates to sign Anthony when he and the Thunder part ways in the coming days.

Melo could rewrite history with the Rockets, as he could be the piece they need to finally topple the Warriors and he could, at last, get the chance to win that championship ring that has eluded him for so long.
