X Games star Travis Pastrana will attempt 3 Evel Knievel jumps

But before that, on the same day, Pastrana took on the legend's two most successful jumps: his 1973 leap over 50 stacked cars at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and his 1975 jump over 14 Greyhound buses at King's Island near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Travis Pastrana is no stranger to death-defying stunts, and on Sunday he did the legacy of Evel Knievel proud with three impressive jumps in Las Vegas, including landing one of Knievel's most infamous failures.

If all goes well, Pastrana will then immediately attempt to jump 16 Greyhound buses.

Other than the abortive Snake River Canyon jump - which doesn't count because the Idaho state authorities classed the Skycycle X2 as an aircraft rather than a vehicle - Knievel's most notorious fail was his attempt to jump the fountains in front of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. "And to end at Caesars Palace, to have a chance to jump the fountain, it's not the longest jump, but it's definitely the hardest".

"Man it's such a honor to live a day to in Evel's footsteps - and literally in his boots", the personable Pastrana said on the landing ramp as a huge crowd of onlookers cheered.

Pastrana, 34, an 11-time X Games champion, wore a red, white and blue jumpsuit similar to what Knievel wore in his heyday and rode an Indian Scout FTR750 V-twin motorcycle that was described as being similar to Knievel's Harley flat-track motorcycles.

The stunt was famously attempted by legendary stuntman Evel Knievel in 1967 that rustled in him crushing his pelvis and femur, fracturing bones in his hips, wrists and ankles and was reportedly hospitalized with a coma in for 29 days.

In the age of social media and millions of eyes being on live events like this, it was surely health'n'safety-ed to the max.

It's tough to jump over a bunch of cars, but you know what's tougher? I proposed to my wife here. "This was definitely the coolest thing I've ever done". If you thought the result of the bus jump was bad, brace yourself.

Pastrana said: "This is the most iconic jump in stunt lore". Pastrana celebrated his success with a few burnouts and a dive in the fountain-it was a scorching 110 after all in Vegas.
