World Cup has broken ‘stereotypes’ about Russian Federation, says Putin; Fifa seconds it

Russian Federation coach Stanislav Cherchesov hopes that his team's performance at their own World Cup this summer has positively changed perceptions after the hosts were initially tipped to struggle and exit the tournament at the group stage. We'll see if I can allow him to play from the first minute.

"Our prime minister (Dmitry Medvedev) was in our changing room".

"Luck was against us", Cherchesov said.

"He told me to have our eyes open and make the right steps".

Following the turbulent three weeks of the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches, which kicked off across Russian Federation in mid-June, the global audience of football fans took a two-day break before the eight best national football teams would restart vying for the much-coveted FIFA World Cup Trophy in the quarterfinals of the quadrennial championship on July 6-7.

"He has been calling me, he called me before and after the game with Spain", Cherchesov said.

"Let's not forecast too far ahead".

In a telephonic interaction with the reporters ahead of the meet, the USA envoy, however, tried to keep the deliverables from the summit to "low expectations" and stated that the meeting itself was a major deliverable. "Well done to our guys, they tried very hard.I'm really happy that we made it to the quarters for the first time in [Russia's] history".

Undeterred by the shootout defeat, many Russian supporters still erupted in the streets of central Moscow to celebrate, just like they did on Sunday when Russia shockingly defeated Spain.

He world cup may not resolve Russia's economic concerns but it has certainly gave it a positive image, something that the "undemocratic" Putin administration will make full use of in its future worldwide dealings.

Russian opposition politician Aleksei Navalny, who has served several jail sentences for organizing antigovernment protests, also hailed the team's effort. If they trusted us or not, we trusted ourselves.

"The President hopes that a meeting can help reduce tensions and lead to constructive engagement that improves peace and security around the world because you can't solve problems if you're not talking about them", the US Envoy said.

"People not only started to believe in us, but the whole nation loves us now", he said. This, in turn, is fueling concerns in Washington and among USA allies in Europe that Trump may proclaim the Helsinki meeting a breakthrough without extracting any real concessions. "We will have do something with our players to play against them and individually our players will have to play well".
