White House Forms Team to Oversee Supreme Court Nomination

Collins indicated in a recent article in Maine's Portland Press Herald that she would not take Roe v. Wade into consideration when voting on a replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy, prompting fears a new justice will overturn the court's 1973 landmark decision on abortion.

President Trump said he interviewed four candidates Monday in his search for his next Supreme Court nominee, as two federal appeals court judges emerged in a report as the leading contenders for the nomination.

A source familiar with the process said Friday that he has narrowed the list of 25 potential candidates to about five, but that he could consider as many as seven, including two women. Susan Collins, putting pressure on the so-called "moderate" Republican from ME to vote against any nominee who does not support access to abortion care and to defend Roe vs. Wade.

Democratic voters will support Republicans because of ICE criticism Coney Barrett, Kavanaugh among candidates who met with Trump: report Trump administration recommends against allowing China Mobile access to United States market MORE on Tuesday spoke to another three possible Supreme Court nominees, bringing the total number to seven. Justin Clark, the director of the Office of Public Liaison, will oversee White House coordination with outside groups.

"Think about Dred Scott; think about separate but equal... all of these really shameful decisions in our nation's history and I believe that one day we're going to see Roe in that same list", she predicted.

As Trump weighs his options, he has heard from Sen.

Speaking at an Anchorage news conference, Murkowski simply said she favored someone like Kennedy, who played a pivotal role with his swing votes.

Neither the White House nor Trump himself revealed the names except for saying that he interviewed four potential Supreme Court nominees.

But two advisers familiar with the White House's strategy told the Herald that the focus would be more on moderate Senate Democrats up for re-election: Sens.

Democrats now invoke McConnell's presidential-election rule to delay Trump's second nominee's confirmation process in the hope they will retake the Senate majority in November.

Corbin Bernsen, John Schneider, Steve Guttenberg, William Forsythe, Wade Williams, and Richard Portnow also star in the film as Supreme Court justices.

Walker said that if it comes down to the vice president casting a tie-breaking vote, he thinks it could tear the country apart.

Even though Republicans changed Senate rules previous year to allow confirmation by simple majority, if Democrats hold together, they can not afford defections.

A Republican and Trump-supporter, Mr. Tiwari said the AHC would launch a campaign to muster support for Mr. Thapar if he gets the nomination.

As he did with the nomination of Neil Gorsuch as a SCOTUS justice previous year, Mr. Trump is building up anticipation for the announcement, by tweets, public speeches and in interactions with the media.

The senator has a couple of times threatened to withhold his vote on key Trump priorities citing ideological disagreements, most recently the nomination of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
