Netflix is testing an expensive new 'Ultra' subscription tier
Jul 04, 2018, 17:12
Netflix is supposedly thinking about adding a fourth plan that will include access to HDR content in addition to everything now available in the Premium plan.
Currently, it costs £9.99 to subscribe to the Premium tier, which includes access to 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos where available.
Netflix is yet to announce the new feature officially, so drop your pitchforks for the time being.
Netflix's current plans go for €7.99, €10.99, and €13.99 respectively. Reports also suggest that Netflix has been testing out different price levels for the Ultra tier, such as €19.99 rather than €16.99, so it's a very much a case of "stay tuned".
You probably wonder what sets it apart from the Premium plan on Netflix.
Netflix is considering moving HDR (High Dynamic Range) to a more expensive Ultra plan. Promotional material for this new streaming package indicates that it would essentially be the same as the current "Premium" tier. Different user groups see various implementations of the new feature or change.
The change seems to affect new customers only at the point in time. Now, however, if you sign up to Netflix today you'll find there are three tiers and the first one is back to £5.99, just as it was back in 2012.
Netflix is trialling an expensive new membership tier that will anger those already paying for Premium access. Which plan are you subscribed to?
That said, some Italian users who claim to have gotten the test offer report that the Premium subscription might get an annoying downgrade.
The way Netflix is set up makes it easy for up to four people to share an account, and suddenly asking Premium subscribers to hand over more money so they can carry on watching at the same time is going to be about as popular as the Black Death.
