Jared Leto to star in 'Spider-Man' spinoff movies

The project comes from director Daniel Espinosa ("Life") and writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (who created Netflix's "Lost in Space").

Jared Leto reportedly went to some intense lengths to get into character as comic character the Joker in Suicide Squad, sending rats and condoms to co-stars.

He will play Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who injects himself with a serum derived from bats in an attempt to cure a fatal blood disease. Morbius previously appeared on TV in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Ultimate Spider-Man Vs The Sinister Six, and was originally earmarked to make his film debut in Blade until his cameo was deleted and plans to make him the villain in Blade II scrapped.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Sony is at it again: according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has just announced another Spider-Man spin-off, this one based on noted Webhead adversary Morbius The Living Vampire. Leto had been courted for the role for some time, but has only given his okay as of now.

With the Tom Hardy-headlining Venom opening this October and Spider-Man: Far From Home launching next July, movie-goers look set for a web-tastic season.

We suggest none of them open any packages from their star.

Leto's performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad was met with mixed reactions, though, possibly the more widespread reactions are those attributed to how he prepared for the role. Which Spider-Man characters would you most like to see hit the silver screen?
