Vela, Hernandez help Mexico win against S Korea 2-1 — FIFA WC

Osorio said at his pre-match conference, streamed on FIFA's website, ahead of Saturday's clash with South Korea in Rostov-On-Don: "This week we made sure that we all understand the responsibility - the responsibility is to play up to the high expectations that everybody has of Mexico now".

The criticism of Mexico's national team heading into the World Cup was loud and scathing.

South Korea, who have won only one of their last 11 World Cup fixtures, reached the knockout phase most recently in 2010.

Osorio admitted he didn't know exactly how South Korea would be lining up tactically in Rostov, but said he had a plan A and plan B depending on how the Asian side approach the game. "It was just noise". Germany (no points) face Sweden (three) later on Saturday.

"We want the Mexican people to enjoy this".

"We have to keep playing as well as we did against Germany and we have to have the same mindset", Guardado said.

Mexico lead with six points from two games while South Korea have lost both matches and have only a remote mathematical chance of progressing.

Los Angeles FC forward Carlos Vela scored a penalty to open the scoring in front of a vibrant crowd in Rostov-on-Don, with West Ham's Javier Hernandez adding the killer second after half-time. He hit the ball low past goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo after collecting a pass from Hirving Lozano.

Casual Mexican passing in their own half actually almost gifted a goal to South Korea as veteran defender Rafa Marquez, brought off the bench after Hernandez struck, selling Ochoa short and forcing his goalkeeper to intervene as Son Heung-min looked to pounce. "Our talent and hard work have paid off".

South Korea take on Mexico on Saturday.

"Very often when you play countries or teams with less of a footballing history, human beings tend to rest on their laurels a little bit". We can not relax and sit back.

South Korea gained a conciliation in stoppage time courtesy of an excellent left-footed strike from Son Heung-min.

"Our players I think played a game that they will not regret", he said.

Mexico captain Andres Guardado stressed that Mexico's players are focused and that the ambition of the squad in Russian Federation goes beyond a victory against Germany.

Mexican fans avoided using a chant, which is considered to be homophobic by Federation Internationale de Football Association, against the opposing goalkeeper.

Mexico dominated the match right from the beginning, holding the vast majority of possession as South Korea was forced to chase and hope for a counter.

Sweden are the final group-stage opponents for Mexico, with Osorio keen to remain focused on that test after celebrating another World Cup win.
