Clippers Trade Austin Rivers To Wizards For Marcin Gortat

In a surprising pre-free agency deal, first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers have sent Autin Rivers to the Clippers to the Washington Wizards for big man Marcin Gortat.

On January 16, 2015 Rivers made his debut for the Clippers and became the first son to play for his father in an National Basketball Association game. First the Hornets dealt him to the Celtics as part of a 3-team trade, and days later the Celtics shipped him to the Clippers as part of another 3-team trade.

Rivers, who has been with the Clippers since 2015, has already chose to opt in to the final year of his current deal worth $12.65 million for 2018-19. Last year, he averaged 15.1 points and four assists per game.

The Clippers have an uncertain situation at center with DeAndre Jordan's player option decision.

Gortat had been with the Wizards five seasons, averaging 8.5 points and 7 rebounds this year.

According to SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh, the Wizards' playoff chances drop from 38 percent to 21.9 percent with the departure of Gortat and addition of Rivers.
