Trump Props Up Grieving Parents To Defend Immigration Policy

As it stands, the Republican's more moderate compromise measure would allow a path to citizenship for undocumented migrants, known as "Dreamers", who came to the U.S.as children, and would codify an end to the Trump administration's now halted practice of separating undocumented families who cross into the USA illegally.

President Donald Trump said Friday Republicans should wait until after the November midterm elections to pass immigration legislation, undercutting Congress' ongoing efforts to pass a bill.

While both House of Representatives and the Senate under the Republican control, the latter can not pass most legislation without the support of the Democrats.

The legislation was already on life support, with party leaders deciding on Thursday to postpone a vote to the following day as they struggled to garner enough support for the measure, reports The Hill magazine.

Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, leader of the UK's progressive Reform stream of Judaism, suggested in an interview published Sunday that US President Donald Trump's immigration policies could be a stepping stone on the path to genocide.

"Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November", Trump wrote.

In a possible indication of the scope of the crackdown the Trump administration envisions, Time magazine reported that the US Navy is preparing plans to build detention centers for tens of thousands of immigrants on remote bases in support of the "zero tolerance" policy.

Amid confusion over Trump's efforts to roll back the policy of family separations, officials said on Thursday the United States military has been asked to get ready to house up to 20,000 immigrant children.

It was dead earlier this month, after an insurgent effort to force a vote on a bipartisan bill in the House failed.

NPR's Mara Liasson brought up the matter of voting on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), but Continetti said that issue would not matter compared to families being separated.

Merida-Galicia, who is being held in California, is just one of many incarcerated immigrant mothers whose attorneys tell similar stories about chaotic situations in which the mothers don't know where their children have been taken or how to contact them.

After images of children in chain-link enclosures sparked domestic and global outrage, the president ended the separation practice but has continued his hardline talk on immigration.

On Thursday the Pentagon said it would support a request by the Department of Health and Human Services to find temporary shelter on military installations for up to 20,000 unaccompanied children who are detained for illegally crossing the border. It included border wall funding and different curbs on legal immigration.

Calling Democrats "obstructionists" and accusing them of not caring about border security, Mr Trump tweeted on Friday that voters need to elect more Republicans.

Ryan seems to have forgotten the first key step in "I'm Just a Bill", the "Schoolhouse Rock" jingle that debuted when the future House speaker was 5 years old in 1975.

The president spoke out days after he insisted Congress act to resolve the problems at the Mexico border.

"(He) wants Americans to believe that the hundreds of people we saw in this facility were a danger to them and to this country", the Himes said.

"Bill", a piece of legislation, sits on the Capitol steps and explains to a young boy all the hoops he has to go through, from committee to the House to the Senate to the White House, to become law.
