Philadelphia Phillies mascot accidentally hits fan in face with hot dog

Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (66) jokes around with the Phillie Phanatic before the start of the game at Citizens Bank Park.

The organization also said no one has been injured by the hot dog cannon in the past.

McVay has a black eye after being hit Monday night when her team's mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, shot a frankfurter out of a hot dog-shaped cannon into the stands above home plate. The Phillies hosted the St. Louis Cardinals and, as usual, the Phanatic was out doing mascot-like things.

"Because you would think you'd get hit by a baseball instead of a flying hot dog".

McVay, a longtime Phillies fan, added that she doesn't plan to seek legal action, but said her experience should be a lesson for baseball fans everywhere.

"It came down with such force, like a ton of bricks", she told "Inside Edition".

As it turns out, those hot dogs can hurt.

A shoulder injury prevented McVay from being able to catch or swat away the hot dog, which was wrapped in duct tape.

McVay was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a small hematoma in her eye, along with soreness and bruises. "It's going to go down the side of my face". "It gives people a good laugh, and if that makes somebody chuckle, then that's fine", she said.

"Just to be aware, because you never know", McVay told ABC 6.

McVay says she won't join the list of plaintiffs to have sued the Phanatic, according to 6 ABC's Action News.
