Telltale Are Working On A Stranger Things Project

Slow down, it's not as big a splash as you might think. We've reached out to Netflix and will include their response when we hear back.

There's no word yet on other Telltale titles coming to Netflix, however, so it still isn't certain if this is a one-off or if this may lead to further collaborations between the two parties involved.

Original: A new report from TechRadar reveals that Netflix and Telltale Games are in talks to bring the developer's titles to the streaming service, starting with Minecraft: Story Mode.

As for what the Telltale games might look like though, sources told TechRadar to look to Amazon's Fire TV platform, where Telltale games like Minecraft: Story Mode, The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us have already found a home, letting users play through the entire game with the Fire TV remote.

The bleed between storytelling formats and genres never feels more present than when Netflix enters the conversation, especially considering the impact of new technologies.

The spokesperson also confirmed that a Stranger Things project is indeed in the works (as the earlier report had stated), but it's not built for Netflix a la Story Mode.

Telltale's Stranger Things project, meanwhile, is part of Netflix's marketing and promotion efforts, but will not be on the Netflix service. Despite all this, Netflix has stressed that they are not venturing into the gaming industry themselves. "There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today", the company explained. As suspected, the Minecraft release will be an "interactive narrative story", similar to the stories the service has featured since last summer.

Minecraft: Story Mode is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC and both Android and Apple iOS devices.

Sources claim that a playable demo has been floating around for at least a year, and that an official announcement from either Netflix or Telltale Games "could happen any day". However, plans do change, and if this goes over well there's always that sliver of a chance that Netflix may expand beyond traditional video streaming down the line.

Simmer down, everyone. Netflix isn't about to stream video games. But that approach also places limits on the types of games it can support (i.e. don't expect a Call of Duty: Netflix Edition) - which, as we now know, is by design.

It sounds like Telltale's Stranger Things title will instead be a full game, which makes this whole thing even more exciting.
